Barbara Morland: born 2/20/1944 in Akron, Ohio, lived in Macon, Georgia 1946-48 and Trussville, Alabama July 1948 – August 1963. Graduated from Hewitt-Trussville High School 1962, where she was active in Student Government and an American Field Service Exchange Student to Brazil, summer of 1961. Entered Emory University in the fall of 1962; marriage in August 1963 to Cooper French, a pastor of 4 small churches east of Montgomery, Alabama; education continued in Atlanta; lived in several locations in North Alabama as a minister’s wife. BS degree in Education from the University of Alabama 1977 and Master’s Degree in Library Science 1981. Two daughters from this marriage; Cooper French died in June 1977. Married Howard Morland August 1983 and moved to Arlington, Virginia. Her 33-year career at the Library of Congress, first in the Congressional Research Service and later in the Research and Reader Services Division with her appointment to the position, Head of the Main Reading Room, from which she retired December 2017. Ms. Morland and her husband currently live in Arlington, Virginia.
